The
Karl Radde Award Nominations
Presented
annually at the California State Outdoor Championships The Karl
Radde Award is made to an outstanding JOAD athlete that has demonstrated
the ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and service and is an
ambassador for the Olympic sport of archery.
Any adult member of the State Archers of California may nominate
an active JOAD athlete for the award. Upon receipt of completed
nomination forms the State Archers of California board of directors
will select the athlete or athletes deemed deserving of the award
and recognition.

Junior
Archers Compete for National Titles at Disney's Wide World of
Sports Complex

COLORADO
SPRINGS, Colo. - The Disney's Wide World of SportsÒ Complex
and Florida Archery Association hosted the 24th Annual Junior
Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) National Championships this
past weekend in Orlando, Fla. The event featured over 200 young
archers from around the country ranging in age from 6 to 18, including
many of the top juniors from around the United States including
Junior United States Archery Team (USAT) members and Junior World
Champions.
Junior
archers are divided by age into four different categories: junior,
cadet, cub and bowman The competition format included a FITA round
the first two days with each division shooting 36 arrows at four
different distances, two on Friday and two on Saturday, for a
total of 144 arrows. The Junior U.S. Open, which is a head-to-head
elimination round or Olympic Round (OR) was held on Sunday.
JOAD
National Outdoor Champions, in all categories, were determined
by the ranking on the FITA round. The Jr. U.S. Open is necessary
for Junior and Cadet division archers to receive Jr. United States
Archery Team (USAT) ranking points. The Olympic Round did not
include the bowman division, only junior, cadet and cub divisions.
Members of the Jr. USAT Team were required to participate in the
Olympic Round.
In
the male recurve cadet category, 2005 Jr. USAT member and Jr.
World Indoor Team member Daniel Schuller (Mercer, Pa.) took the
JOAD National title, finishing with a score of 1291. Lindsay Pian
(Scottsdale, Ariz.), a 2005 Jr. USAT member along with her 2005
Jr. World Indoor bronze medal
teammate Stephanie Rowland (Orchard Park, N.Y.) finished in first
and second place with 1277 and 1256 respectively in the female
junior recurve category. Heather Pfeil (Boston, N.Y.), a 2005
Jr. USAT member took third for the junior recurve women with a
score of 1208.
For
the junior compound men 2005 Jr. World Indoor Champion and 2005
Jr. USAT member Brady Ellison (Glendale, Ariz.) took first place
with 1347. David Roth (Lowell, Mich.) a 2005 Jr. USAT member and
2005 Jr. World Indoor bronze medalist and world record holder
finished in second place with 1342.
In
the female junior compound category Jr. USAT members Brittany
Lorenti (Trumbull, Conn.) Jessica Mattson (Canton, Mich.) finished
in second and third place with 1357 and 1323 respectively. Lindsay
Christensen (Preston, Idaho) took first with 1359.
